On April 10th, the Senate Judiciary Committee heard resolutions urging the federal government to release Roger Christie on bail pending trial.
Since July 1010 Christie has been denied his constitutional rights to a speedy trial and repeatedly denied release on bail.
But Sen, Hee wanted to kill the resolutions.
However, he claimed he would be happy to be out-voted.
HEE: I’M HAPPY TO BE OUTVOTED BY THE COMMITTEE
Not just once but twice.
HEE: AS I SAID EARLIER, I’M HAPPY TO BE OUTVOTED
But Hee was clear that he wanted to defer…
HEE: MY RECOMMENDATION IS TO DEFER THESE TWO RESOS
As testimony begins Sen. Hee announces…
HEE: WE HAVE MANY TESTIMONIES IN SUPPORT
But apparently that wasn’t good enough.
When it was time to vote, Hee again recommends to defer (kill) the resolutions.
HEE: MY RECOMMENDATION IS TO DEFER. IF YOU FOLKS HAVE STRONG FEELINGS TO THE CONTRARY YOU CERTAINLY HAVE THE RIGHT TO SAY SOMETHING…
Sen’s. Slom, Ruderman, and Ihara all spoke in favor of the resolutions.
Sen. Gabbard offers an amendment… in hopes to move the resolutions forward.
HEE: THE RECOMMENDATION OR THE SUGGESTION BY SENATOR GABBARD IS TO CHANGE THE TITLE TO ‘EXPRESSING A CONCERN’ AS OPPOSED TO ‘URGING THE RELEASE’. NOW IF… WE WERE TO GET PRIOR CONCURRENCE, ARE THERE THOSE OF YOU WHO WILL VOTE AGAINST THAT HALF A LOAF SUGGESTION?
No one said they would.
So Sen. Hee recessess for ten minutes to track down Sen Espero to get concurrence on the amendment.
So we thought!
HEE: … OF THE COMMITTEE… HE ASKED ME WHAT MY INCLINATION WAS AND MY INCLINATION WAS TO DEFER IT AND HE’S FINE WITH THAT. SO UNLESS THERE IS ANY OTHER BUSINESS THE RESOS RELATED TO ROGER CHRISTIE ARE DEFERRED. THANK YOU. (Bangs gavel.)
According to Sen. Espero, Hee never told him about the amendment.
That means Sen. Hee LIED to his committee members and the public!
The Roger Christie resolutions would have passed!
