Hello Hawai’i Voters and “We the people”,

Aloha. This is Roger Christie writing to you from my prison cell in the Federal Detention Center at the Honolulu Airport. I’m nearing the end of my 5 year sentence for operating The Hawai’i Cannabis (THC) Ministry in downtown Hilo and on the internet. It continues to be my honor to take a stand for use of Cannabis as our spiritual sacrament and the biblical tree of life. My wife Share still faces 27 months in prison unless we win our appeals in the next 9 to 15 months, a stronger possibility as every week goes by and the whole truth of Cannabis (especially unheated, juiced) and the health benefits of fertile hempseeds and cannabinoids becomes known by more people.

Religious freedom is called “the first freedom” because it was placed first in the First Amendment to the Bill of Rights. It’s considered the most important right of all. This past week the U.S. Supreme Court upheld religious freedom in the “Hobby Lobby” case which used the Religious Freedom Restoration Act in its challenge to unConstitutional Obamacare mandates. Hobby Lobby lawyers used The Hawai’i Cannabis THC Ministry as an example in their successful argument for religious freedom to the Supreme Court Justices. Some of the details of their legal reasoning were included in a Huffington Post online story on March 26, 2014. It’s important for me to correct the record here by saying that Share and I were ruled “sincere” and “legitimate” religious practitioners of Cannabis by Judge Kobayashi.

The U.S. Congress made the law prohibiting Cannabis hemp in 1937 by misnaming it “marijuana” to fool people away from its natural goodness and usefulness. The U.S. Congress has kept and is still keeping the unConstitutional prohibition in place. This FRAUD of a law has never had a vote of the people and must be corrected now by our U.S. Senators and Representatives. “We the people” deserve much better than extreme prohibition and a violent, unnecessary drug war on a God-given, natural herb and the gentle people who use it.

Our U.S. Senators Brian Schatz and Mazie Hirono, and Representatives Tulsi Gabbard and Colleen Hanabusa are each responsible for supporting the crime and violence caused by prohibition of Cannabis hemp (“marijuana”) because “Silence = consent”. Unfortunately, they have each refused to have the professional courtesy, the basic good manners and the intellectual honesty to answer simple, direct questions that my wife and I have repeatedly asked them about marijuana for years. I’ve written multiple letters and emails and Share has made phone calls and she’s even personally visited their offices in Honolulu and Hilo. To this day we have received zero response. “We the people” deserve better.

Please take the opportunity to ask our U.S. Senators and Representatives (who now ask to be re-elected) to reveal their positions on 1.) medical marijuana, 2.) the outright FRAUD of “Schedule 1” classification of marijuana, 3.) the legalization of marijuana (now supported by a majority of Hawai’i voters), and 4.) our Peaceful Sky ordinance approved by the voters of Hawaii County in 2008. They each owe us an answer on where they stand on these important issues. These same questions need to be asked of and answered by all candidates running for elected office in Hawai’i.

The U.S. Conference of Mayors passed a Resolution in 2012 calling for 1.) the re-classification of marijuana under federal law, 2.) to allow states to pass their own marijuana policies without federal interference and 3.) requests the President of the United States to prevent expenditure of resources on actions that undermine the duly enacted marijuana laws of states (and counties). When will Hawaii County Mayor Billy Kenoi, Prosecutor Mitch Roth, Police Chief Harry Kubojiri and our Hawaii County Council members begin to honor the will of the voters of Hawaii County by supporting the Peaceful Sky initiative passed legally in 2008, the Lowest Law Enforcement Priority Of Cannabis Ordinance? “We the people” of Hawai’i deserve answers that make sense and respect the Constitution.

All the best to you and yours,

Roger and Share Christie
